Process

You should never have to wonder what your web team is doing.

Every ACIS project moves through the same four stages, in the same order. At each one you’ll know three things: what’s happening, what you’ll get, and what we need from you. 15+ years of experience in web design and development has left us with one firm opinion: a surprise at handover is a process failure, not bad luck.

  1. Discover

    Before anything gets designed, we learn what your website is actually for.

    What happens
    We talk — about your business, your customers, what the current site does well and where it fails. We review your content, your competitors and any systems the new site has to work with. Then we write the scope down in plain language.
    What you get
    A written scope and a quote built from it, not a guess dressed up as one. You’ll know what we’re building, what it costs and what’s deliberately left out.
    What we need from you
    Time for one honest conversation, access to your current site and content, and the person who can say yes.

  2. Design

    The site takes shape on the page before it takes shape in code.

    What happens
    We design around your real content — actual words, actual products, actual photos, never placeholder text in boxes. Work happens in the open: you see designs early and often, and your feedback shapes the next round while changing course is still cheap.
    What you get
    Page designs for the screens that matter, on desktop and mobile, before a line of production code is written. What you approve is what gets built.
    What we need from you
    Content — the words and images, or the raw material for them — and prompt, honest feedback while it can still change things.

  3. Build

    Approved designs become a hand-built, working website.

    What happens
    We build the approved design by hand: responsive on every screen, manageable through a content management system, and tested as we go — forms, checkout if you have one, and the awkward screen sizes in between.
    What you get
    A working site on a private staging link you can click through and try to break, plus straightforward progress updates — including the unglamorous kind.
    What we need from you
    Final content to replace anything provisional, a round of testing by the people who’ll actually use the site, and sign-off when it’s right.

  4. Launch & care

    Going live is a step in the process, not the end of it.

    What happens
    We launch carefully — redirects, security, backups, search engines pointed at the right place — and then we stay on. We train your team to run the site day to day, and remain available for maintenance, security and support.
    What you get
    A live website, training so your team can run it themselves, and an ongoing care arrangement if you want one — updates, security, support from people who already know your site.
    What we need from you
    Access to your domain and hosting ahead of launch day, the people who’ll be trained, and a decision on how much ongoing care you’d like.

How long does it take?

Honestly: it depends on the project, and anyone quoting a timeline before scoping the work is guessing. So we don’t. We scope before we quote, which means the estimate you get — cost and timeline both — is built from the actual work in front of us, not a number picked to win the job. Once a date is agreed, the four stages above are how we keep it.
